5 Panels in Ritherdon Mix Grey

5 Panels in Ritherdon Mix Grey
Each panel measures 230 × 115 × 0.5 cm
Mild steel sheet metal, coated with ‘dead powder’ to the point of resistance.

‘Dead powder’ refers to the waste powder collected from the spray booth after each job. This residual material accumulates in a large IBC container and reflects a build-up of many different powder coating colours. As work continues in the paint shop, the colour of this waste gradually changes. The Dead Powder works document this transformation over time.

Installed at Bury Sculpture Centre in 2019.
Produced as part of Return to Ritherdon, a project developed during a two-year artist placement at Ritherdon & Co Ltd — a manufacturer of steel enclosures based in Darwen, Lancashire.
Photographs by Jules Lister.
